    Professor Achilleas Zapranis is a Professor in Finance and Neural Systems at the Department of Accounting and Finance at the University of Macedonia. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, 1989), an MSc in Computer Science (University College London, 1992), and a Ph.D. in Decision Science (London Business School, 1997). His doctoral thesis was conducted (with full financial support) as part of the NCTT technology transfer program under the auspices of the UK Department of Trade and Industry, focusing on the research of Artificial Intelligence applications in financial markets. Corporate members of this program included Barclays-BZW, Citibank International, Mars Group, Postel Investment Management, Sabre Fund Management, and Société Générale.

    He has served as Rector and Vice-Rector of Economic Planning and Development and Chair of the Research Committee at the University of Macedonia, as well as Chair of the Rectors’ Council. He was also the Director of the Executive MSc in Accounting and Financial Management (University of Lancaster, University of Macedonia) and a member of the Coordinating Committee of the a) MSc in Strategic Accounting & Financial Management (Executive), b) MSc in Applied Accounting & Auditing, and c) MSc in Accounting & Finance at the University of Macedonia. Additionally, he served as a Board Member of Alexandria Innovation Zone S.A. and General Manager and Board Member of Northern Greece Securities S.A., as well as a consultant for financial institutions on financial applications of neural systems, such as Ackerman Capital Management, based in Dallas. His research has been published in reputable journals such as IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks, Neural Networks, Neural Computing & Applications, Neurocomputing, Defence Economics, Journal of Forecasting, International Journal of Forecasting, Journal of International Financial Markets, etc. In addition to his textbooks, he has published four monographs with international publishers Wiley and Springer-Verlag and one with the Greek publisher Kleidarithmos.
